West AlabamaWorks!, Alabama Workforce Council Region 3 and partners are working in conjunction with Shelton State Community College to organize the fourth annual hands on industry exposure event known as “Worlds of Work”. Worlds of Work is designed to help 8th grade students “connect the dots” and clearly identify steps toward a college or career pathway as they enter their high school education. The Worlds of Work event will give our future talent supply the opportunity to directly engage with local business and industry and support their preparation to enter the workforce.
We invite 8th grade students to participate in this event as a means of introducing future high school graduates to potential careers through interactive demonstrations and displays provided by business and industry representatives. Please mark your school board calendars for the “Worlds of Work Business Expo” which will be held October 11 -12, 2018 at Shelton State Community College.
Partners within this collaborative include several sponsors. We each recognize, in order to attract and retain young talent for tomorrow’s workforce, they must be educated and engaged through activities that reflect real-world situations and stimulate them intellectually. Our future workforce must also be encouraged to perform at a level that matches that of the economy and early exposure of career expectations and opportunities to the younger generation is critical.
Students attending will have the opportunity to browse and interact with industries, businesses, and post-secondary/four-year universities across Alabama.
